The education system in Tampere

In Finland, education is the foundation of society. It is the source of innovation and well-being, encompassing all aspects of life. The education system is universal, equal and inclusive: it is mostly publicly funded and accessible to all.

The Finnish education model has gained global recognition as being the best model in the world, especially concerning 21st century skills. Teachers in Finland are highly educated, autonomous and respected, which is one of the main sources of excellence in the Finnish model. The teachers are professionals in modern pedagogical expertise, based on the latest research.

The education model is based on trust and professionalism, giving the teachers, principals and municipalities a high level of autonomy in executing everyday education. While the Ministry of Education oversees and guides the national curricula, each municipality and respectively each school have the freedom to implement in a locally unique way.
